The most fertile part of the Herdade do Samouqueira is this 3 hectare field at the foot of the plateau. Its local name is Varzea de Salgadinho, suggesting use as pasture, which is its current use, but as the property's land use map indicates, and one of the heirs confirms, in olden days it used to serve as an arrozal, or rice field.

A small stream (never dry) runs along the western and northern sides. A watering hole for animals is found at the far end of the field, cristal clear and framed with flowering herbs. The tall plants that are shooting up in the foreground are wild lilies.

Part of the Corgo do Porto da Mó, the mouth through which waters from the Serra do Samouqueira run into the ocean, the entire area can become inundated in the rainy season (with depths of up to 2 m /7 ft), when the small brook turns into a river (see Corgo in Flood), horses need to be moved to higher ground and boating becomes a realistic possibility.
